Top tips for replacing glass shower seals

If you have a glass shower and want to replace the seal, there are some simple steps you can follow. One of the first steps is cleaning the seals. Once you have done this, you are ready to install a new glass shower seal.

Replace c-shaped seals

To replace the seal, measure the length and width of the old seal and then cut it accordingly. You’ll need to measure the bottom sweep and the jamb. One of these will have a lip or drip edge. Make sure you place it in the shower. Then, install the new door jamb over the clean surface. You may have to clean the old seal’s adhesive residue depending on the construction.

It’s best to buy one 90 degrees in length and choose a different size if needed. You’ll need to consider the thickness and length of your glass shower door, and it would help if you also considered the angle. A 90-degree-angle seal will prevent water from escaping when the door is open.

Measure gaps

To measure the gaps, you’ll need to know the exact dimensions of the glass and door. The bottom seal of your glass shower door should be at least as long as the door width. Otherwise, it will allow water to seep through. Fortunately, some seals are compatible with glass thicknesses ranging from 6 to 8mm. Using a measuring tape, you can find the measurements you need. You can also ask an expert or hardware store for help if you’re not sure how to determine the thickness of the glass.

Avoid mounting glass hinges and clips on glass tiles

When mounting frameless shower doors, make sure you have structural support behind the door’s tile. Ensure the studs are level and that the frameless door meets the center of the curb. If the door hinges and clips are to be mounted on glass tiles, install a 2X6 “strap” between the studs and glass tiles to prevent tile cracking during installation. The Shower Seal Shop offers 6mm glass shower seals that give you the best seals.

To install the panels, line them up evenly, and make sure the panels are level on all sides. Once you’ve installed the door, make sure to align it properly and use heavy silicone caulk to seal the glass to the walls.
